The Building was originally constructed as the middle school gym with an arcade connecting it to Building H, which was the main classroom building. When first purchased a second floor infill was installed within the former gym area, the arcade was expanded and enclosed and an addition was constructed behind the original building.

The original construction consisted of masonry walls and a wood and steel framed roof. The roof consists of slate shingles on the slopped sections and EDPM on the flat area, with gutters, downspouts and roof drains at flat sections. The ground slab is poured concrete over a crawl space.

The Building’s flooring finishes consist of carpet, ceramic tile. The walls are either painted or ceramic tile. The ceilings are acoustical ceiling tiles. The stairways are finished with sheet vinyl, paint or are exposed concrete.
Mechanical
Systems:
Heating

Steam to hot water converters are located in the mechanical room as well as supplemental baseboard perimeter heat.

Air Conditioning

The Building is serviced by 3 air conditioning systems: AAH1, AAH2 and AAH4.

The AAH1 system is located in the 1st floor “lean to” mechanical room and consist of an indoor Trane modular climate changer with exhaust fan. The air handler dates from 1993 and is in good condition. There is an outside air cooled condensing unit immediately outside at grade. Ductwork form this unit runs up the outside of the building into the attic space. Distribution within the attic space consists of low pressure ductwork and hot water reheat coils.

The AAH2 system is located in the first floor mechanical room and consists of a mammoth indoor air handler with low-pressure steam preheat, mixing section, filter section, chilled water-cooling coil and supply fan section. The return fan is a percentage outdoor air/percentage return air constant volume air handler that is separately mounted.

The first floor conference rooms are cooled by supplementary split units (Sanyo). System AAH4 is located on the flat roof area above the one story addition and serves the second floor offices in the connecting link.
