The Celanese Site is located within the eastern portion of the City of Summit, which is in the northwestern section of Union County, New Jersey. The surrounding towns include Millburn and Short Hills to the north, Springfield to the east, Mountainside and Berkeley Heights to the south and New Providence and Chatham Township and Borough to the west.

The City of Summit is 6 square miles in area with a population of approximately 21,000. Primarily a residential area, Summit is considered to be a very desirable, upper income community.

The Celanese Site is less than one mile south of Route 24, which provides access to Interstate 78 and Route 124.

Within a few blocks of the Site, is downtown Summit, which houses a New Jersey Transit rail station with access to Newark and New York City via its Midtown Direct Line service. In addition to rail service, downtown Summit offers a full range of services with good parking, numerous eateries and excellent local shopping. Neighboring corporations within Summit include Overlook Hospital, Boras Industries, Summit Medical Group and Schering-Plough Corporation. Located within a two mile radius are the Grand Summit Hotel, the Short Hills Mall and Short Hills Hotel.

Summit offers a full range of recreational activities and within one mile of the Site are Baltusrol Golf Club and Canoe Brook Country Club.

Summit continues to be a very desirable commercial and residential area.
